How to use auspicious hours

Traditional hours usually span two clock hours. The live clock converts the actual instant to UTC+8 and reads its hourly almanac rating. The next favourable start is displayed in your device’s local time. The harmony animal is the 六合 partner, a separate label from the hour’s general rating. The detailed chart splits Rat time at midnight. Check both date and timezone before comparing calendars.

What makes an hour favourable here?

The site displays the traditional 吉/凶 hourly classification returned by its almanac library. It is a cultural classification, not a measured probability or a promise of success. An hour can also have its own suggested and avoided activities.

Why does a traditional hour last two hours?

The time division used here associates twelve animal branches with daily time periods. The intervals below use UTC+8. In another timezone they fall at different clock times, so do not read your device’s local time directly as an entry in this table.

Hour periods in UTC+8

This table shows time periods. Their favourable or unfavourable rating depends on the selected date.

UTC+8Earthly Branch
00:00–01:00Rat
01:00–03:00Ox
03:00–05:00Tiger
05:00–07:00Rabbit
07:00–09:00Dragon
09:00–11:00Snake
11:00–13:00Horse
13:00–15:00Goat
15:00–17:00Monkey
17:00–19:00Rooster
19:00–21:00Dog
21:00–23:00Pig
23:00–24:00Rat

Does the next favourable hour belong to my selected date?

The home page’s live clock always follows now and the next favourable period. To inspect a past or future date, open the detailed calendar and set that date. Its time input is interpreted as UTC+8, independently of the device timezone.

Does a favourable hour override a daily warning?

The website applies no such override rule. Read daily and hourly activities separately. An hour’s favourable rating does not approve every activity, and its harmony animal is not a personalised promise. Check what the chosen activity actually says in both views.

Why are there two Rat-hour rows?

The 23:00–01:00 period crosses midnight. The detailed calendar splits it into 00:00–01:00 at the start of a date and 23:00–24:00 at its end, giving thirteen rows. Midnight also changes the calendar date, so use the entries for the correct day.

How do we select dates?

Daily data comes from lunar-javascript 1.7.7. The finder looks for the exact Chinese activity term in 宜 and excludes dates where the same term occurs in 忌 or a general prohibition appears. Results are chronological, without scores or personal adjustments. The detailed chart uses Joseph Yu’s published method for the daily flying star. Different almanac editions can disagree.
