Local time and the Chinese calendar day

Today uses your device’s local date. The almanac date represents a Chinese calendar day. The live clock calculates in UTC+8 and displays local time, so it may already refer to the next Chinese day.

What is the difference between local time and UTC+8?

Local time follows your device’s timezone setting. UTC+8 is the application’s calculation convention, eight hours ahead of UTC. The same instant may have different clock times and calendar dates. Changing the website language does not change the device timezone.

Why can Today and the live clock refer to different dates?

Today opens the calendar on your local date. The live clock evaluates the actual instant in UTC+8 but displays its times locally. In the evening, your local date may therefore still be today while the hourly classification already belongs to the next Chinese calendar day.

How should I read the conversion examples?

The table compares specific Budapest times in winter and summer 2026 with UTC+8. The difference is seven hours in winter and six in summer. The evening example crosses midnight. Do not automatically reuse these offsets for another city or a historical year.

Which time goes into the detailed calendar?

Its date and time fields accept UTC+8 values; typed local times are not automatically converted. Convert the whole timestamp and check whether its date changes. For example, Budapest at 20:30 on 15 July 2026 corresponds to 02:30 on 16 July in UTC+8.

Does the website calculate true solar time?

No. It does not request geographical coordinates or correct for longitude. Historical almanac dates also follow this site’s fixed UTC+8 calculation convention. When comparing another calendar, check its timezone and day-boundary rules before treating different results as errors.

How do we select dates?

Daily data comes from lunar-javascript 1.7.7. The finder looks for the exact Chinese activity term in 宜 and excludes dates where the same term occurs in 忌 or a general prohibition appears. Results are chronological, without scores or personal adjustments. The detailed chart uses Joseph Yu’s published method for the daily flying star. Different almanac editions can disagree.
